We are Amanda and Joe Clayson, and we live in Pequot Lakes, Minnesota. We live with our two children and three dogs. Amanda is fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). Our home is on a dead-end road with only three other houses nearby, in a rural area. We live just 10 minutes from town and a few minutes from a lake. Amanda’s parents provided foster care while she grew up, and she experienced the difference a family can make by welcoming someone into their home. Their experience inspired us to do the same.
We love being outdoors. In the summer we like to ride bikes, go on the boat, and go to the beach. Joe races cars so we like to go to the racetrack as a family and sometimes camp there. In the winter we do a lot of ice fishing and snowmobile racing. Joe spends most of his free time working on cars/snowmobiles or taking the kids places. Amanda loves to read and bake.
The person we support will have their own bedroom and a common bathroom used mainly by them. The kitchen and family room are shared by everyone. Each week we try to divide up chores depending on people’s schedules and their time at home, to help keep it neat and clean.
Amanda is a caretaker and thrives on helping others. Joe loves to keep the family busy and enjoys time together. We believe we have one life to live, and we try to spend it helping anyone we can while doing what we love. We are excited to open our home to someone looking to be part of our family, and we hope to be part of yours. We look forward to the opportunity to support you in achieving your goals and enjoying your life.
