We are Nora and Joseph, and we live in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota with our daughter and our granddaughter. Our neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. We are close to shopping, walking trails and parks. As parents of two adult children with developmental disabilities, we have over 30 years of personal, professional and foster care experience. We also have the heart to provide support to a child in need and have always been welcoming of new children, ensuring nobody feels like an outsider.
We immigrated here from Libera and Trinidad. When we first came to the states, we settled in New York City, but eventually moved to Minnesota. Our family is always supportive of each other’s interests and enjoys helping each other wherever there is a need. We include our foster children in our daily routine and ensure that everyone feels a sense of belonging.
On a typical day, we see our granddaughter off to school in the morning. During the day, Nora may be busy working her part time job or volunteering at our church where she is a deacon. After school and on the weekends, we enjoy going for walks, visiting the park, watching movies, and attending prayer services at church. Our home itself is a split level, located within a cul-de-sac. The available bedroom is located upstairs, and there is an adjacent shared bathroom. Everyone helps with general cleaning once a week on the weekend, and we would encourage the new individual to participate in household chores according to their level of ability.
One of our strengths as a family is our perseverance and our knowledge, which comes from life experiences helping ourselves, and others to achieve their goals. Nora has more than 35 years of experience in human services, providing direct support to both adults and children in group homes and day programs. We are dedicated to providing a safe and stable environment for children, helping them learn life skills and become the best versions of themselves that they can be.
